Hi,

I am a former governor at Pitsea Juniors when the playground was developed as Safe Place For Children in the 1990s before moving to Scotland twelve yeas ago. I just found your website and am impressed. My daughter Marie (soon to be a mum herself) attended there and her last teacher was Mrs Keep as did her father Peter French before her (he had Mr King, sadly no longer with us we understand) and his father Arthur in the 1930s as well as some cousins and aunties too.So our family had a huge affinity with the school. Some of our family members still live in Pitsea. A belated Happy Birthday to you all, hope you had a great celebration.

Hi
Wow, i attended this school back in the 1970's asnd it still looks the same on the outside as it did in all my school photos. I was on the school netball team and i went to Belgium representing the school. Mrs Oneil was my teacher and netball teacher and i think Mrs Goskam was ourt headmistress.
I live in Australia now, moved here when i was 13.

Hello Pitsea Junior School
Congratulations on 100 years.
I've just looked at the photos. It looks like you celebrated in style.
I am sorry I haven't written before but it is not easy to get on the internet and it costs a lot of money when you do get a connection.
I really miss you but Mrs Scott is e mailing me so I can keep up to date. I hear you did well in the SATs year 6. I hope you enjoy Wat Tyler. I hear some new children have started. I'm sure everybody is being kind.Life is very different here. We have no water now and sometimes we have power. There aren't proper roads and classes just have a blackboard and chalk but no books, computers, instruments, equipment etc. We must remember how lucky we are in England.
Love Mrs Blant

Wow! The success of our Centenary week celebrations was unprecedented! So many congratualtions from parents, past pupils and governor's! A HUGE thankyou to ALL staff for their hard work in preparing for this week- it wouldn't have been the success that it was without them!! Also, immense thanks must go to our children- they were an absolute credit to their school and parents- we are so proud of them! Thankyou to all the past pupils who turned out (in their droves!) for the Heritage Day- they made it so special for the school and gave us so many kind, congratulatory comments- do come back and visit again- the children really enjoyed speaking to you and showing you around their school! Our gratitude also goes out to the parents of our children for supporting us with the fantastic costumes that their children turned up in on our Costume/Heritage day- they looked fantastic! Last, but certainly by no means least, thankyou to John Baron, M.P. for unveiling our Centenary Doorway.

I did enjoy the reunion get together. Why were we crammed into two small corridors when the hall was empty and we could have mingled around. I am sure I missed a lot of people I knew as I just couldn't see them

I also went to the Open Day and it was lovely to see the school still going strong. All the old classrooms brought back memories, though in my day we had blackboards and double desks and no IT suite. Seeing photos of the netball team (Mrs McNeil didn't seem to look any different whether the photo was taken in 1960 or 1980) and of Mr King, my 4th year teacher, was fantastic. Sadly I didn't see anyone from the year that I left (1980) but I did meet up with Mrs Courtenay, who taught me in 1977–78 and was one of the best teachers I have ever had. It was worth going just for that. Congratulations on a great school. I owe the fact that I got through uni and a post-grad qualification to the good start I had at Pitsea.

I went along to the 100 year celebration eveing on Friday the 2nd with my mum sisters daughter and nephew who had all gone to the school in the past. The emotion on peoples faces when they identifed somebody was sensational.
I went to Pitsea Juniors from 1975 to 1979 and spent my last year in Mrs McNeil's class. She soon knocked me into shape for the secondary school. Another memorable moment was when Miss Hickman gave me a cuddle for finishing 2nd in the 100 metre district final at Gloucester Park. You didn't get many of those in them days.
Reading some of the other comments I remember the milk round but as soon as Margaret Thatcher got into power that soon stopped, could have been over 6 foot tall now with lovely white strong teeth.
Any way, great school, lovely centenary celebration and great job by all the staff who put it together

Started at Pitsea in 1950 I also remember Mr Bebbington and his stories of the battles in the Sudan and the Mad Mullah, i still have clean shoes!
I can only kick with my left foot because they were short of a left back in the football team, everytime I tried to kick the ball with my right foot Mr. green chased me with a slipper (he never caught me!) Happy days.

Joined Pitsea school in 1945, always had fond memories of it, especially Mr. Bebbington who had a fantastic range of stories and who had shoe inspections every Friday - we only polished them on Thursday nights - and who taught us italic handwriting.
